During the building of the home, local people were employed giving much needed employment to the community. 
 
The children who live there are one big happy family.

A house “Mum”, house “Dad”, cook and cleaner are employed to care for the children. 
From time to time, volunteers go out from the UK to help in the orphanage and the community.

It is lovely that the children are enjoying three meals a day in their tummies now rather than one meal every three days when Debbie first met them.

The children attend Utange Baptist Primary school, which is just a three minute walk from Casuarina HouseThey are soaking up all they are taught like little sponges.

Some farming land has been purchased in order to help towards self-sufficiency. 
 
Feeding the children uses some fifty per cent of the Project's total running costs.
The children's medical needs are taken care of and they have been vaccinated against local diseases. (1 in 25 children in Kenya die of measles),
